Brookfield's Removals Testimonials

...some testimonials...

"Just had to let you know how we appreciated the way your company moved us from Kent to Norfolk. As you know jusy 48hrs before we moved, the dreadful Foot&Mouth raised its ugly head. DEFRA stopped us moving our goats, but we had no choice our house move had to go ahead.

Your team were wonderfull, with your cheerful manor and knowledge, helped us a great deal. The three lads that moved us were very professional and careful with our belongings (no accidents ). But sadley goats had to stay.

When finally the restictions were lifted, you were great. You met us in Kent, loaded the goats and away we all came. Your understanding of the whole situation was very passionate, which we thank you for."
Best regards Valerie and Roy Keen.

"Wanted to say thank you to Brookfields for transporting back my 4 horses from France. The process was made simple by the friendly assistance and reassuring help from the staff at Brookfields, from the first contact made til the horses were delivered. William and his colleagues looked after my horses well and they arrived safely after a 16 hour journey, with no scratches and as happy as they possibly could be. They travelled better than anticipated, especially taking their young years into consideration. I felt very happy with the service and comfortable with the knowledge that they were looked after properly. Many thanks."

"Just a few lines to let you know we are getting settled in and have been made very welcome. Purdue the cat is enjoying the open space as are we. Thank you very much for the professional way you assisted us and nothing was broken. See you some time if you are this way. Thanks."

...letter from a satisifed client...

Steve and I lived in a beautiful part of England, owned donkeys, goats, cats and dogs and to all intense and purposes led a blissful life. However, to maintain this life style meant that we worked long hours and I seemed to spend most of my life on one of England’s overcrowded and busy motorways. It was decided, therefore, to follow our dream and up sticks and move to France. We had seen all the programmes, read all the books and visited France many times. I had worked in France as an au pair many moons ago and could still speak good French.

Simple all we had to do was sell the house and move.

The first part was easy but finding a removal company that would accommodate all our needs seemed to be impossible. Then we met Sandra and William and in all the many house moves Steve and I have made, we had never met a couple who were so obliging and helpful as these two people. Our requirements changed daily as we discovered that we couldn’t take the donkeys with us.

Sadly and to this day I constantly think of them, the donkeys were too old to travel and were returned to the Donkey Sanctuary, Devon. My farrier had a daughter who adored the goats and we decided that as they too were getting on in years that the kindest thing would be to home them with her. I receive regular reports from the donkeys and the goats!

The day had come to move and at some unearthly hour in the morning William, Chris and team arrived to load the lorry and move 2 cats 3 dogs and us to the S.W. France. They had already taken most of the furniture a month earlier into storage for us. Chris with his expert eye knew every cubic inch of his lorry and we managed to fill it for him. I can still hear William saying ‘I thought you were going to be strict and only take what was necessary’

Twelve o’clock came and the lorry was full, the cats safely settled in to their large travelling crates and time to say goodbye to our home. William left us on our own to say our ‘goodbyes’ and arranged to rendezvous with us on the M27 when we would transfer the dogs to Brookfield’s transit van to travel with the cats on the ferry. I must add at this point that every consideration had gone into the animals’ travelling arrangements. William had thought of everything and the travelling crates were large and plenty of water was at hand for the animals.

After a very emotional and tearful au revoir we drove out of our village only to be met by a large group of friends who had organised a surprise street party for us. We had already held a farewell party in the village hall, the weekend before. It was at this time we started to doubt our decision to leave Somerset. All fears were soon expelled when we met up with William who cheered us up and reassured us. His patience was never ending when constantly bombarded with questions from me about the care of the animals during the sea crossing. William had arranged with the ferry company for the van to be loaded in a side bay, thus enabling easy access to the van to check on the animals. Every detail had been thought of, from re-arranging the crates so the cats could sleep together to a plentiful supply of water and fresh air to the van.

After a smooth crossing, we docked and passed through customs without a hitch, thanks to William who handled all the custom’s paperwork. Our journey was uneventful with plenty of stops to exercise, feed and water and that was just the humans!

And so 15 months have passed and too much has happened to recall. We do not regret our decision to move to France but I would offer a few words of advice. If you do not speak French, attend lessons before you move. The French are very helpful and appreciate any attempt at their language. If you have dogs, make sure that they have been treated for ticks. A type of tick exists in France and can prove fatal if the dog has not been protected with Frontline or similar product. Think very carefully what you want from your new life in France. Life in rural France and especially in the winter is very quiet, be prepared for shops to shut for 2 to 3 hours during the day. Whilst the weather is usually glorious in the summer, winters depending on the region, can be very cold. We experienced –14 degrees this January. On the other hand, the plusses for living here outweigh the minuses.

I love listening to radio 2 and Sally traffic and hearing that the M25 is at a standstill when I have probably seen 3 cars that day! The markets are great places to meet new friends of all nationalities. Go to French classes, invite the local farmers and neighbours for a drink, it is amazing after a few Ricards and glasses of wine how fluent everyone becomes in each others language.

If you are still sure this is for you take the stress out the move and trust your belongings and pets to Brookfields. They call themselves an ‘unusual removal company’ we would call them an extra-ordinary removal company.

If you would like to know more about moving with pets please contact me via Sandra on this website and Bon Courage!

...another letter from a satisfied customer...

My move: When we decided to move to Cornwall many people thought it ludicrous - too far. Too far for a 'normal' move ie furniture, possessions, kids, perhaps a cat and dog maybe a rabbit. To consider a move of 320 miles with 5 horses, 3 goats, 12 chickens, nearly 30 birds, over 100 fish, 6 cats and 3 dogs and an acres worth of shrubs, bulbs and plants was slightly mad I agree but with the proper help (and a healthy bank balance) it can be done. And so it was with us and Brookfields. We had been looking for a property in the west country for over three years and as readers of animal/agricultural magazines, I had seen their advert and cut it out a while before we had to use them. It was easily arranged, although the details of what was being transported changed day by day and eventually the first of three vehicles pulled outside our chaotic dwelling as promised and on time. The two guys were part titanium, part muscle. The huge things they lifted (our 'plants' numbered 9 feet trees amongst them) amazed us, after we had dug them up (using a small JCB) and both of us being over sixty with arthritis, we had been pulling, lugging and exhausting ourselves for weeks and were now watching them being lifted into the large truck seemingly without effort.

The fish travelled down with oxygen bubbling away and despite the unbelievably tight vendor taking the piece of plastic from the outside tap that allowed a hose to be connected, suffered no ill effects thanks to the guys attentions. Even the large fibreglass pond the fish had lived in for nine years was taken to Cornwall and is still their home!

The way everything was packed into the truck was amazing. Lubricated with cups of tea and friendly banter the first of three loads was completed and after a nights sleep, it all left for the west country. I first thought that one would be enough but as the house was to be demolished, we were reluctant to leave anything to be bulldozed so a second vehicle was booked. This too was packed amazingly quickly and professionally. I stayed in Kent for an extra fortnight as I was unwell and Bob travelled back and forth in his van until his health broke down and he too had to rest.

This left quite a lot of equipment that now would not be able to go with him so we booked Brookfields yet again to do a third and final load. This time when they got to Cornwall, I was there. Bob and I had travelled down packed to the gills with birds, chickens, goats and the normal pets a few days before but had to leave two of the horses because my truculent 27 year old Arab would not load.we were taking the Horses. But before Brookfields left Kent on their final trip, they helped Bob to load him into the trailer and also helped when they all arrived in Cornwall by leading him into his new field. So it had happened. We had finally arrived, here in our new home, surrounded by masses of gardening stuff, hundreds of plants in plastic tubs of all sizes put in rows by the guys, heaps of kentish ragstone, garden furniture, etc etc etc. The 'normal' effects were delivered by a separate company in two large lorries at different times, all of which filled the house, the garage, the barn and the workshop. Utter clutter and chaos. We know that without the help of Brookfields, we would have had to leave a lot of equipment behind and certainly, Bob would not have managed to get all the plants down in his van. As these plants were in effect, the garden my Mum planted out when we first arrived in Kent from London in 1951, and they would all have been 'murdered' by the builders, I feel very grateful that I could get them all down to Cornwall even if it was a risk with the different climate. I think the concept of a removal company transporting animals, plants, anything of sentimental or financial value that people do not want to leave behind is such a necessary one. I was very pleased that I saw their advert such a while ago and decided to give them a go. All the time the guys were pleasant, professional and extremely helpful. We would not have managed to get all the things we wanted to take with us without the help of Brookfields and I would never hesitate to recommend the company to anyone. Writing this nearly three months afterwards, it is good to relate that not one plant has died. All are thriving. Barbara Patman
